Sunday Sessions: Why I Still Show Up Every Week

Every Sunday, I record. Not when I feel inspired. Not when a big project demands it. Every Sunday — sessions to finish songs that need finishing and to get features recorded while the week's energy is still fresh.

I've been in this business over 20 years. I've had records on the radio, deals with major companies, press, shows in other countries. By every outside measure, I've "done it." So why does a Sunday session still sit on my calendar like a job I can't miss?

Because I learned the difference between artists who last and artists who flash.

⏳ Motivation Is Weather. A Schedule Is Climate.

The artists I watched disappear weren't less talented than the ones who stayed. They worked when they felt like it — and feelings are unreliable business partners. When the feeling left, the work stopped. When the work stopped, the audience forgot, because audiences always do.

A standing session removes the negotiation. Sunday isn't a question. I don't wake up and decide whether I'm an artist today. The calendar decided months ago. All I have to do is honor it — and on the Sundays I least feel like showing up, I usually leave with the record that matters.

🎯 What the Session Is Actually For

It's not just recording. It's where unfinished work goes to stop being unfinished. Every artist I know has a hard drive full of almost-songs — hooks without verses, features owed, ideas from three years ago still waiting on "the right time." The right time is a scheduled time.

Finishing is a discipline separate from creating, and it's the one that pays. Nobody streams an almost-song.

📓 The Log Entry I'd Leave for a Younger Me

Show up weekly. Finish in public view of nobody but yourself. Stack enough Sundays in a row and one day you look up and you're not "working on music" anymore — you have a catalog, a rhythm, and a reputation for delivering, which in this business is worth more than a hot record.

Final Takeaway: You don't need more inspiration. You need one non-negotiable appointment with your own career, kept every week, in good moods and bad. Mine is Sunday. Pick yours — then protect it like it's the only session that will ever matter, because stacked together, it is.
