Tupac Shakur was one of the most influential and controversial rap artists of the 1990s. He was born on June 16, 1971, in Harlem, New York, to Afeni Shakur and Billy Garland, both members of the Black Panther Party. He grew up in poverty and experienced racism and violence from an early age. He moved to Baltimore, Maryland, where he attended the Baltimore School for the Arts and developed his skills as a rapper, actor, and poet. He later moved to Marin City, California, where he joined the hip hop group Digital Underground and released his debut solo album 2Pacalypse Now in 1991.
Tupac rose to fame with his socially conscious and politically charged lyrics, which addressed issues such as racism, police brutality, poverty, and black empowerment. He also became known for his rivalry with other rap artists, especially those from the East Coast, such as The Notorious B.I.G. and Sean "Puffy" Combs. He was involved in several legal troubles and controversies, such as being accused of sexual assault in 1993 and being shot five times in 1994. He was sentenced to prison in 1995 for his involvement in a robbery and shooting incident. While in prison, he signed a contract with Death Row Records, a label run by Suge Knight, who paid his bail and helped him release his multi-platinum album All Eyez on Me in 1996.
On September 7, 1996, Tupac was shot four times in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada, after attending a boxing match between Mike Tyson and Bruce Seldon. He was taken to the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada, where he died six days later from his wounds. He was 25 years old. His murder remains unsolved to this day, although many theories and conspiracies have been proposed. Some people even believe that he faked his death and is still alive.
Tupac is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential rap artists of all time. He has sold over 75 million records worldwide and has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He is also considered a cultural icon and a symbol of resistance and activism for many people around the world. His legacy lives on through his music, his poetry, his movies, and his fans.
